A place for things that don't fit into the automotive world

Make automotive engineers be a tech for 2-3 years beforehand

After spending an hour taking a load of junk out of the way, so I can get to a bolt on the back of the engine to take a VANOS valve loose I realized there is a stud from another component sticking up partially blocking access. The only way you can see the bloody bolt is with a mirror and after fighting with the T30 bit on a 3/8" socket wrench I realized the stud is sticking up too much to allow the 3/8 socket body through. Of course, I don't have a long T30 or a 1/4" drive T30.

If the engineer who designed this had been a tech for a few years he would not have let that stud stick up that far because he would see it would block access when trying to remove it. He also would not have placed the connector on the valve at such an angle that it can't be released without first removing the valve.
