A good YouTube video showing some simple but fair tests comparing types of engine oil: Good quality mineral oil, budget fully synthetic and top brand fully synthetic. I know most us here are pretty up on the lubrication spec requirements of modern engines which seem to be getting more demanding every model year but this video gives a good insight into comparative performance.
