Care to share what type of auto industry jobs you've had? Nothing too specific, just info like independent, fleet, chain, dealership, parts, sales.

3 Months at a local tire shop (Short duration was due to the property being sold by the property owner unexpectedly right after I was hired). The business closed down. Great shop and experience despite the limited time there.
8 Months and counting at a local independent shop (Motor Works). It has been and continues to be a great learning experience. I work for and with great people. Very fortunate to have found my shop as the owner is a Master Tech, one service writer is a Tech, two of the Techs in the shop are Master Techs, the other Tech is highly experienced. There are two Apprentices, myself and newer apprentice. This shop sees everything from Dodge Vipers, MGs, Vintage Austin Healeys to the latest and greatest current makes and models. We have the capability to re-program computers etc with a myraid of factory scan tools. That's something I have yet to learn but am eager to one day once I become more capable in the fundamentals. The other experienced technicians take the time to teach me things and are happy to help out. It is a great working environment where quality and integrity are the top priority. No parts changers at this shop.

Got about 5 years at a huge used car dealer as a first job. Got pretty familiar with the idea of working on all makes and models from that place. To this day still hate the same makes as I did back then.
Been at this new independent shop for going on 6 years now. Fairly small for the work we put out, but managed to claim most of the smaller dealerships in the area which in itself is both a blessing and a curse. Trying to sell work to those cheapskates is a royal pain. The cars here run the range of beater unsafe for the road to one of a kind kit cars, and Land Rover Defender 90's and 110's that sell for an absurd amount of money for the rust buckets they are.
