Ok, here's a good example of why it's important to Read The Freaking Manual :)

My co-worker bought a Honda Passport (Isuzu Rodeo) from our boss at the junkyard.

It's a junker, but it's solid, it runs well, has nice tires and we're not very fancy people ;)

But the transfer case shift lever is STUCK!

(I bet a few of you are yelling the trick already)

He's pretty much beat the knob off this thing and gotten just about everyone in the shop to try and strong arm it into submission to no avail.

Wheels rolling, stationary, in gear, neutral, park, you name it.

I found him a transfer case I had pulled years ago when I was still working in the yard, of which the shifter was also immovable.

Service info is practically nil, and he's turned up nothing from Google.

I hop on iATN between jobs today and find a post by a tech with the same issue, which he inherited from a used car lot.

The first reply:
Did you press the 4wd button?
:pinch:

We were under the assumption that the presence of a mechanical shifter coming up through the floor meant that this truck was equipped with a manual transfer case.

Upon further investigation, the shift lever only selects between high and low gear while the engagement of the transfer case is accomplished via an electric motor.

Well that explains the conspicuous shift-motor-looking-thing attached to the new/used unit, Iol.
