Tell me what tool cart to buy

Looking to the community for suggestions! :cheer: I've recently moved to a new shop, the biggest one I've worked at yet. It used to be that my main box was usually less than 30 feet away, so running back to it for whatever socket/wrench/tester was no biggie. But now, it's becoming a real time waster when I have to walk the length of the shop several times during a job. I need more cart space.

For reference, I'm currently using the good ol' HF cart:

I've had two of these, amazing value, just not big enough. :( So I wanna skip right past the 30in version and go straight for a full sized cart.

Front runner so far is this Homak . Not sure how I feel about the slide top.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, suggestions or experiences you have on where I should be looking. :) I'd like to avoid tool truck boxes, but I'll buy one if it's worth it.

Mad Max it!

One of the guys has this cart from Mac Tools.

I like the slide top access to the tools inside and the assisted closing drawers. It's way better than any Snap-On cart I've seen.

I think they make one with drawers all the way down like that Homac you're looking at. Probably twice the cost though.

Harbor Freight has a good looking 5 drawer cart with a flip top for $210.
Less with a coupon.

Also, where'd you get the air tool holder? And why does it look like a pair of brass knuckles for a giant, made of plexiglass?

  Good one.

For me it's kinda weird. I mean we don't buy our own tools and storage here. Different culture I guess

I've heard that! All tools and storage provided, right? So what do you do with all that extra money? :woohoo:

How long do you want the cart to last? In my experience, most tool carts don't last very long because they are built cheaply. My advice is to buy a cart that is built like a tool box, meaning it is welded together instead of bolted together. I know snapon has a few models like that and Cornwell makes some. I have a Mac cart like shown, I bought it when they first came out and it has been worn out for a while now. I bought a used Snapon KRSC46, welded cart, about 3 years ago and it still rolls perfect and the slides are perfect. I paid $500 or $600, can't remember exactly

Good point here. I appreciate quality products, and don't mind paying for it. Maybe I could reconsider a Snappy box...

I dunno where you guys are finding used boxes/carts for cheap. My local CL listing is 95% used miter saws and beat up DeWalt drills.

I got lucky and found a full drawer blue point on my local CL for $150. It even had some home built storage accessories put on it. I ended bringing it home to use here and prefer having the smaller, more nimble $50 HF 2 shelf deal for work.

There's something about having just what you need organized out for you. It's sort of a ritual feeling to me, ha, preparing for the repair. I can see how being far from your box could be a pain for all of the trips back when you didn't quite have everything you needed.

I don't know if you ended up picking up a cart yet but HF just came out with a full drawer roller that is pretty nice for $220 I think?

I did see those new HF carts, but decided they didn't have the storage I want/need. The price is definitely right.

Ended up getting a used cart from the Cornwell guy. Big enough for all my crap, used enough that I don't feel bad when I treat it like an ash tray.

Thanks to all for your suggestions!
