AGM battery retro fit --- worthwhile was created by Andy.MacFadyen
Need some collect wisdom what do you guys think ?
Recent severe winter weather in the UK has killed the battery in one of my cars, pondering replacement normally I buy a top grade premium battery and try to avoid batteries with silver or lithium doped "boosted" chemistry, but this time I am looking at laying out the extra cash on an AGM type.
The car is a diesel that won't be used everyday.

Relative cost in the UK for a type 096. 700 to 780 CCA, 70 to 78AH
Cheap 2 year warranty battery £60
Premium 4 or 5 year warranty Bosch/Varta/Exide/Yusa £78 - £100
AGM 4 or 5 year warranty £114-£146

Don't even hesitate, IMO. Diesels lean on their batteries pretty heavily, and no one wants to jump their car in the morning. Plus, I find that the cheap lead acid batteries leak and trash the cable ends way more frequently. NBD on some cars, pain on others where some of the main fuses are integrated into the cable end.

But, I'm also the guy that stuffed an oversized heavy duty battery in his daily driver. :silly:

I am wondering if it was just frozen , after 16 hours on a smart charger it seems to pass on the AC impedance tester, I will try loading to 1/3 the CCA (260 amps !) with the carbon pile load tester when our weather improves, we have had a lot of drifting powdery snow this week and working outside is not fun. I will probably replace it anyway before I go on holiday I don't want to arrive back at the airport to a no crank. I will go AGM probably a Yusa or I have been looking at Hanook .

Tyler your not the only one that up sizes the battery in your daily driver :-) -- I don't trust any battery or myself not to leave a light on.

I bit the bullet and bought a Hankook AGM battery the old battery passed every test with old school and high tech tester but even disconnected from the car it dropped 0.2v per day.

No joke! Also Hankook makes batteries? Probably not the same as the tire company...
