This more or less how a sketch in 1980 BBC TVComedy series "The Two Ronnies" went.
Scene two old farmers having pint in a country pub.
Farmer Jo “My old horse is sick".
"What was it you gave yours when it was poorly?”.
Farmer Bert “Turpentine, I gave my horse turpentine.
Farmer Jo “ You gave it turpentine?”
Farmer Bert “Turpentine I gave it turpentine”.
Two weeks later same pub same two farmers
Farmer Bert “How did you get on with that sick horse?”
Farmer Jo “Like you said I gave it turpentine.”
Farmer Bert “How is now?”
Farmer Jo “Dead ! I gave it turpentine but it died”.
Farmer Bert “That's funny …. so did mine”.
