Been busy bought a diesel

I had a busy day yesterday but somewhere along the way I dropped in to an auction I bought a very low mileage 15 year old Rover 75 diesel which was almost the last lot so I then had to rush to town as I was taking Ruth to see a play,
Picked it up this morning it isn't perfect but with only 56,000 miles on the clock and the paint work is very good apart from a bumper scuff so some minor sorting is not a burden. Only fault code showing up is an SRS g sensor not communicating and I think the MAF needs cleaned but I haven't looked at the suspension yet.

Is the MAF a load input on this Rover? I'm super curious about its engine management, 'cause I only have domestic trucks to compare to. Common rail?

The MAF is the main input, it is a BMW M47R 2 litre diesel similar to that in the BMW320d and 520d and some Freelanders.. All this common rail stuff is going to be new to learn I trained on two stroke diesels that you could climb down into the cylinders of.. Most of the engine is buried below the top cover So I haven't been able to investigate properly but I intend to scope the injectors and MAF for future reference.

The engine bay is pretty crowded

In contrast this is the 1.8 K series Gasoline engine version.

Wait, you have two powder blue Rovers? I dig that color ;)
They're classy looking cars, the only Rovers we get are SUVs.
Are they built on Jaguar suspension? Kind of looks like an American Jag.

Rover history is complicated, these days it is an orphan brand which is why I specialise in them.
The the model I have was designed just after BMW bought out Rover, MG and Land-Rover the floor pan was originally for a FWD BMW that was never built there are a lot of BMW parts the suspension is not unlike the BMW 3 series or Mini
BMW pulled out of Rover keeping only the plant that made the Mini, Rover eventually went bust in 2004. BMW sold Land-Rover to Ford who combined it with Jaguar and then Obama forced Ford to sell Jaguar Land-Rover to an Indian steel company Tata who are doing good things with it.,
The Rover and MG brands and tooling were sold to China where it is now sold as the Roewe 750

Ah yeah, I can definitely see the BWM influence. I'd recognize that power steering reservoir anywhere!

The MAF is the main input

Interesting, 'cause our domestic makes only do speed density systems, with the MAF there for EGR monitoring. The MAF setup makes more sense to me, but what do I know? :silly:

It is a film analogue MAF --- very prone to surface contamination even slight contamination knocks the power output right down.
