In-line electric pump on a Freelander TD4 with Bosch Crd1 injection system. Vehicle took three attempts to start yesterday and today wouldn't start until the fuel pump was given a single smack. To eliminate the chance it was an open at the connector I took a quick look at the amp waveform. Classic nasty looking missing hump waveform.
The pump had been replaced with a new Magneti Marelli pump 3 years ago !

Nice capture. Any theory for the short life span of the pump?

It has just been low quality parts, Magneti Marelli used to be owned by Fiat but they sold the brand. New pump was obtained locally to save time unbranded but identical.

Big difference in the wave forms.

Thank you Andy.

The new pump may feature 10 segments or do you see some other repetetive pattern? And iit may still take a while to break in properly. Would you have a chance to revisit this in a couple of weels?
