Snap on verus edge relative compression test

Today I was using my snap on verus edge to do a relative compression test. My concern is the size of the waveform.

I set the scope up like danner did in his video, low amp clamp 60 amp setting, scope set to volt DC, 2 volt scale, 2 second time base.

The waveform I got was very small like 3/8th inch tall on the screen. Am I doing something wrong? Can I zoom im?

Any help or direction to this being covered would be greatly appreciated

Are you using AC coupling? If so, try a 1 volt scale.

I tried both ac coupled and and unoccupied. I'll try the 1v scale. If it would make a difference the car I was working on was a 2011 subaru forester xt.

Are you using a curent clamp or the battery voltage method ? Both use AC.
Never forget any oscilloscope is just a voltmeter that draws pictures you can experiment with the settings.

With the battery voltage method use AC, the best way is to think of the Voltage Y axis scale setting is like the volume control on a TV you just adjust it up or down until you get see detail you want.

The AC ripple you want to see is usually only a volt or less -- it sits on top of the DC voltsge by using the AC setting you block the DC part out from what you see on screen so you turn the voltage scale to a lower setting so the detail on the trace is easy to see, Much the same applies if you want to check alternator ripple -- AC and a lower voltage setting so it fills the screen

Using the same connections you can use the DC settings on a 20v scale to have a look at the battery, starter and alternator charging.

I was using a 60amp aes wave current clamp on the positive battery cable in 60 amp setting. I believe I was trying the battery voltage relative compression. I'm still pretty new on using the scope.

Once I figure out the scales and settings for the test I want to perform and I'm satisfied with the pattern on the scope, I write it on a piece of masking tape and stick it on my amp clamp.
