Starter current Gasoline v Diesel

I did a couple of starter current captures comparing a 1.8 litre petrol v 2 litre diesel from the same car manufacturer both cars had same size battery fully charged in good condition.

Interesting. It looks like the diesel took more revolutions to start. A relative compression test comparison would be interesting. In the states we don't get to see many manufactures that have gas & diesel in the same models..

Diesel mania got out of control here in Europe the maddest was the 1.2 litre turbo diesel VW Polo which didn't make any sense particularly as most of the buyers only used it for local shopping trips which didn't allow the DPF to regenerate. In fact VW dealers were actually told by VAG to actively discourage District Nurses from buying it and push them towards gasoline engines instead. In the UK 2 litres is the realistic change over point, anything over 2 litres is diesel but that is changing rapidly as the gasoline engine is making a come back due environmental concerns and DPF issues.
