hantek 1008c need help learning how to use was created by kazooie2244
The hantek 1008c is my first labscope in my toolbox.
I'm learning how to use a labscope.
I hooked up the labscope and connected it properly along with the clamp probes etc.
I don't understand voltage, time frames etc. when I hook it up I don't really see pattern differences to begin with. Im just lost right now. if someone can teach me how to use one I really wanna learn how to use one. I'm a fast learner.

Hi I'm a beginner at oscilloscope and electrical in general, and I recently purchased a scope so I can't recommend much, but one thing that i discovered is that in order to get a proper reading is that you have to first "calibrate" the probe.

Hi Kazooie, I use a 1008C at my shop on a daily basis. I still haven't figured everything out myself but I use it well enough to do diagnostics. I'm including a screenshot so that you can just copy the settings and get a waveform on screen. For simplicity I'd hook up your spark plug wire clamp (HT25 inductive probe) to Channel 1. Set Zoom Vertically to; Channel 1, 5KV, and x10000. Set Zoom Horizontally to 1MS. On the left side you will see a yellow slider called "CH1". You can move this up or down as you like.
On the right side is the yellow tag called "T". This is the Trigger and it is very important! For now slide the trigger from the zero line up to 5KV or about. The trigger is a threshold the scope uses to capture and display a desired waveform. In the screenshot, the spark plug fires positive voltage to a max of almost 11KV. With the Trigger set to 5KV this spark event "triggers" the scope and shows the waveform. Also very important is to set the "Acquisition Mode" on the right from Auto to NORMAL. If you leave it on Auto you will see the waveform BUT it will disappear. If you set to NORMAL, then it will show the last waveform detected. When you are getting patterns on screen but they're not staying, move the Trigger slider upwards until the waveform freezes. You can also hit the Green Arrow button to STOP trigger and hold. If you are running/cranking the car and see no waveform, you MAY need to slide the Trigger BELOW the zero line to negative voltage.
This should get you started to see a waveform. Feel free to PM or I can reply to this thread. Happy to answer any of your questions. Good luck scoping!
