the connectors for the fuel injectors on this 2012 volvo s60 T5 have these little seals around each conductor going into the connector. (see below.) is there any trick to back probing these so as not to damage the seal or to mess up the socket while you're digging blindly? small pair of tweezers to pull the seal out or something? i'm guessing at least someone here would advise me to avoid back probing these altogether, but there's not a ton of other places to tap into the circuit(s).
This is a pretty typical automotive connector, no special technique or tweezers required. I wouldn't want to jam a meter lead in there, but a back probe won't cause you any problems.
Just slide your T-pin or back probe along the wire through the weather seal. They're pretty resilient and seal back up when you remove the probe.
I will say that there are some techs that are vehemently against back probing connectors, just like there are those who are against piercing wires. Totally up to you!
