On the battery lead yes I have 1 and it works well

No a CC65 won't do relative compressions the current range is too low and it won't go over a main battery cable, a CC650 :( is the Hantek DC amp clamp for cranking current.

I wouldn't recommend either Hantek is the cheapest of the cheap lots of other DC clamps available.
A low range clamp is a better first buy as without a high range clamp you can do relative compressions by scoping the voltage across the battery, the humps for each cylinder are just inverted ie a higher voltage hump = low compression cylinder.

Respectfully I disagree. I have it and use it for relative compression. it wouldn't fit on a diesel starter wire but it fits gas engine just fine, set scipe to 2v DC and crank away

If all you want it for is relative compression then it wouldn't hurt to get the 650 to do diesel as well. but the 65 will do everything from Injector current to relative compression

Sorry Andy my network is junk and it didn't load your whole message which is mostly right except that it can be done with the cc65 I'll post a shot of it later

Did Ben ever post that shot? where do you clamp the cc65 to do a relative compression test?

does scoping the voltage across the battery give you as much accuracy as current?

Yes. But, keep in mind that as current goes up, voltage goes down. So, your waveform will be upside down, compared to a current waveform. You can use an invert function to flip it.

I, rarely, us an amp clamp for RC. It's faster, for me, to just use voltage drop. I turn on AC coupling, and invert.

I've been doing it the same way Chad described for a while now.
It's more of a PITA to get the clamp around the battery cables in my opinion.
