Question: would it be viable to do a valve-clearance check via a microphone pressed against the valve cover?
The final say on valve clearance adjustment would be the feeler gauges.
Yet I was thinking maybe, if the valves clearance is too open, they would clatter.
Could this clatter be picked up by a microphone pressed against the valve cover?
It would save some time and materials.
You are likely to have more success with a cheap electronic stethoscope but I wouldn't be too hopeful as the cover is not directly connected to the rocker.
In a similar way you can use a 20 dollar electronic stephoscope on a fuel injector and get more from it by connecting the stethoscope to an Oscilloscope/
