as said in intro thread,, im a recently retired engine installer. the last few years at the shop i used an autel maxisys elite, mostly all engine related diag, hadnt been updated in quite a while. i purchased an autel ms906bt to use in my "retirement".
one issue ive had with both units is an occasional, seemingly random, vin read or decode fails. the elite had the j2534 vic and the 906 has bluetooth of course. on the new unit it wouldnt auto read an 97 honda, 04 kia sedona, but would decode vin and move on just fine. the elite would fail to either read or decode, here and there as well, seems like a few jeeps as i recall..
both units had issues on ford power strokes, the elite was hit and miss. this 906 i tried on a 2000 f450, it wouldnt auto read nor would it decode when manually entered.
is there any rhyme or reason to when why some may not read or decode? on the powerstrokes, is the f450 outside of the 906 (ie commercial vehicle)? what about powerstroke in lighter duty trucks?
