Setting Up Shop To Do Programming

More

Hello fellow techs,

I run a high level diagnostic/repair shop and have always used the dealership or another remote company to do my programming. Honestly, I'm not always confident it is done right, or feel a vehicle may need a second attempt to get the programming right!

I wanted to ask what other systems or set-ups are being used?

Thanks for the help!

Drew Technologies' CarDAQ and Autel's Maxiflash are, probably, the most popular J2534 platforms. I have no experience with Autel.

One big thing to consider when choosing a J-box is Manufacturer Certification. If a J-box has not been certified by the Auto manufacturer, you will receive NO help from the Auto manufactures tech support if you run into problems. If it has been certified, then you will receive the same tech support as if you had OE tooling.

Drew Technologies has OUTSTANDING tech support, however, they are not OEM.

I, personally, use the CarDAQ-M, from Drewtech. But, I believe the CarDAQ-Plus 3 is more popular and more widely certified with the Auto manufactures, though. Both of these J-boxes are designed for, and will work with, all OEM's. This does not mean that they are certified by all OEM's.

Drew tech, also, offers a device that will only work with a single manufacture, called a Mongoose. If you only deal with one Make of vehicle, this would be a good, cheaper option.

Drew Tech, also, offer the RAP. (Remote Assistance Programming) They will give you the equipment and, remotely, connect to it and do the programming for you. (They require X amount of programs per month, I think).

Hello Chad GREAT information Thank You so much!

At my shop we service all makes and models and at this time I just don't get enough jobs that need programming to make the investment on these tools.

But when I'm ready, I'm armed with more information to make a good decision!

Thanks again Chad,
