If I were to buy a Verus, can anyone tell me what Snap-on would charge to keep the scan tool updated.

The best bet is to speak to your rep. If you buy off the truck they may be willing to give you an update. If you buy somewhere else they may be less willing.
The cost can depend on many factors including how far behind the tool is.
I've heard they make you pay for every update that has been missed, but I've never actually paid for an update. I usually manage to get my rep to include one as incentive for me to spend money on the truck. Otherwise I buy very little.
There is also a subscription service that spreads out the payments for one year and gives you each of the quarterly updates for that year.
Another thing to consider is the age of the tool.
A first generation Verus may not be supported any longer, meaning no update available.
My current tool is a Verus Edge (one notch below the Zeus) and I think one update is around $1000.

I find you can generally expect to spend $1000-1200, like Noah said.

The subscription service is definitely an option. Just beware that it adds up to about the same amount over the course of the subscription (generally a year).

I dunno about the Verus, but I know that my Modis Ultra can install the biannual updates via ShopStream Connect, without having to visit the Snap-On dealer. Saves a bit of time/hassle.

I guess I'm not buying a Verus because I'm a diyer and I cannot justify such a high cost. I have to settle for the chippy choppy bi-directional tool. thanks guys.

You can still use the Verus without current software. Depending on its current level, it will likely handle everything you need to work on and you'll have a scope.

Do you know what software version is in it now?
I think the biggest improvements (well, the most relevant to the cars I work on) were made in version16.

The F#CK!?!

I was quoted $1800 for my Verus Edge (with current software) and ended up getting it for $1500 since I did the leg work and sold my old Solus...

My rep sells a lot of scanners though, so that's not exactly typical

Launch and autel have much more reasonably priced machines with similar (sometimes superior) capability.

Not sure about Launch but the updates for the bi-directional Autels aren't exactly cheap either.

why ask about update price if the tool is out of your price range?

I wanted to know the price of the update because I’m not a full time mechanic. I’m a diyer.

Maintaining the updated software really isn't of critical importance. It's not like the scanner is going to turn into a pumpkin when the subscription expires.

Especially if you've got a handful of cars you see frequently, as long as the tool you choose has adequate coverage for those cars it should always be usable for you.

Auntel ms 908 is 800 a year and autel ultra is more then snap on zeus per year for autel ultra its 1300 a year snap on zeus us 1000 a year but there are some brands like launch that once the subscription ends the tool is a brick hope that helps there are a few reputable eBay sellers that when you buy a snap on scan tool they will update everything for you to latest update thats apart of the 5700 dollar price for some of the sellers... as an example 4,999.99 is the price of the verus edge I purchased from a budy of mine that sells his used snap on scan tools on eBay he legally updates the tools but keep in mine that that price is for a master kit had all adapters the ob1 adapters and the European adapter kits as well as all accessories when your looking at prices also look at the items does it have the doc .. I recent purchased that verus edge for 5,600.00 and he even upgraded the ssd to a 2tb as well as latest dual wifi and Bluetooth and memory some sellers have good deals and will even support the product you purchased with updates and even service repairs....

Thank you AntonioCm1983 that was helpful. Which sellers provide that kind of support?
