Test light + banana jacks?

Was watching one of SMA's newest videos when I saw him pull out a Snap-On test light, at about 3:20. Not your garden variety test light, this one has banana jack connections! :woohoo: On the probe tip AND on the cable end. Snappy part # EECT313A00. This seems perfect to me, since I end up combining the ScannerDanner preferred light with my banana jack accessories all the time.

Just like he said, it's not made anymore, and there's not many to be found out there. Does anyone know of an alternative? Or, am I better off buying a second light and modifying it to resemble the Snap-On one?

maybe try ebay? that was a nifty kit though. eric from SMA knows his stuff

I saw that too. Great looking piece of kit. I'm curious to know about the otc kit. I've had a few hit and miss results with otc quality over the years.

Was toying with some ideas this afternoon. Something like this Pomona banana jack adapter would work on the 'rope' part, for alligator clips and such. The pointy end... I'm not sure how to go about that. I considered something like this:

I could cut the point off the tester and thread it to accept this M3 stud. Or tack weld it? I'm trying to come up with something that won't be ugly as sin. :blush: I know the electronics gurus around here can come up with something better.

Yeah, the reviews I find for this talk about some quality issues... Plus, the cheapest I could find was $124. Quite a bit for a scope on a rope!

For a hundred I guess it's not THAT bad. It does come in a nice case with all kind of little probe tips and alligator clips...
I might make a trip to the old Harbor Freight and see what they've got to cannibalize.

Ordered some parts, let's see if I can screw this up! :lol: I plan on modifying an older OTC light that I hardly use any more. We'll see how it turns out.

I googled banana plugs and came up with stereo equipment. Not sure if they're the same style plug or just the name sake.

Welp, I did it! Buuuuuttttt, it didn't go as planned. :whistle:

For reference, this is what I started out with:



My original idea was to drill and tap the pointy end for one of these . As it turns out, the shank is stainless steel, and (spoiler alert) SS does NOT like to be drilled or tapped. :blush: Solder didn't work, either. We have a MIG welder at work, but the wire won't stick to SS. So, this is where I ended up:



"Tyler, is that two zip ties covered with electrical tape?" Yes, yes it is! :lol: I was really hoping some something more elegant, but it works. With some accessories:



If this ends up working the way I want, then I'll either buy some better drill bits, or some SS welding wire.

One big advantage of having the banana jack on the rope end is being able to use it with my AESwave Power/Ground adapter . Before, I'd have to stick my pocket screwdriver into the red port, and clip my light to it. Frustrating. But now, I can just plug it in and test away!

Here you go. I own one of these. The downside is all the included terminals come as one male and one female, so if you want to jump across a solenoid connector with 2 female pins you have to improvise. I tried twice to paste a link but keeps getting screwed up- there is one on ebay right now titled SNAP ON CIRCUIT TESTER KIT EECT313A00
