This a home built break out box I built and used to track down a no coms issue.
It is simple an 16 pin OBD2 socket from a junker joined pin for pin to a 16 pin plug. It only has connections for K and L lines and power and ground as this was all that was required at the time.

I have since bought a puka factory made breakout which all 16 pins connected.

Nothing wrong with that B)
I've even got a junk tool I can cannibalize to make my own!

Oh man, there's been so many times I've looked at my parts store code reader and considered chopping the connector off it!

I've had my eye on the AESwave SmartBOB, but having a hard time justifying the $200 for it. There's not many times I need to scope at the DLC, but it'd be amazing to have when the occasion comes around.

I've got a couple dongles I've found in junk cars I've been saving for something like this too. One is one of those progressive insurance deals, and the other is designed to use with an Android app as a code reader.
