Snap-on scan tool was created by Dylan
Hey guys. Been looking for Snap-on scan tool. No particular preference on model. Found a few on eBay. But thought I asked here on the forum. Don't want to spend a few 1000 bucks. Any feedback would be nice. Thanks!

what is your budget and are you looking for a scope/scanner combo?

Just for scanner. Scope is not important cause I have a Pico. Been thinking and maybe I shouldn't focus just on Snap-on. I've seen Solus, Modis on eBay from 800 up to 2000 and more.

Have you considered an Autel? They seem reasonable for the price, check out South Main Auto on youtube, he has an Autel

Yep, Autel is pretty reasonable in price. You're right Eric from SMA has one. But if I remember correctly it didn't take long before he had a problem with it. He mentioned that in one of his videos.

Just read the topic PC Scan tool or Snap-On? That is the question... in this section. Should've done my homework!

I have no experience on this so someone else may chime in, but I've read people comment on their SO gear not being to take anymore updates due to the hardware not being able to handle it. Again, this may not be much more than heresay, but just keep the age of the secondhand Snappy gear in mind. Maybe ask your rep?

You're right Matt. Tyler also mentioned in another topic that the updates are pretty expensive.....

Yeah, updates are pricey. Luckily I've gotten all of mine for free through various promotional deals. 4 in total so far

Yep, around $1000 :( Tough to justify when that's sometimes more than the tool itself cost!

I quit updating last year since I'm usually not working on '14 or newer, so I don't need the coverage.

Dunno if it's a hardware thing, but I have had trouble updating my Modis. It all revolves around the updates that Snappy makes available online, which you can download/install via ShopStream Connect. No tool truck involved (supposedly). These aren't major updates, just minor bug fixes and such.

Anyway, I've had my Modis frozen twice when doing these updates, had to get my Snap-On rep to fix it

That $1000 is twice a year. 16.2/16.4 = 2nd quarter 2016/ last quarter 2016 so about $2000 per year.

My Launch Pad 2 is $350 per year and there are updates almost every day.

I have a new Verus Edge and the LAUNCH has more bi-directionals on most Euro vehicles.

The Verus Edge is a much more polished tool but it has it's shortcomings just like they all do.

Get one that does most everything and then buy as many as the rest of them as you can. LOL

I laugh but I'm actually serious. I have 7 scan tools and I still need more.

I would love to get my hands on an Autologic.

It's almost scary trying to calculate the return on investment with that kind of overhead. And that's only one piece of the immense cost that, I feel, keeps most of us from taking the plunge into shop ownership!
That's a different topic all together...
