You have to go by the requirements of the software you are using to program with. For instance, I use Forscan for Ford products and they publish on their site the minimum system requirements to operate their software. My experience is that if the computer meets the basic requirements of the operating system then it's almost always good enough for the software too unless the sofware has an unusually large memory requirement.
