AESWAVE COP Secondary Paddle Lead was created by FlyinHawaiian
Hi All. Was thinking of maybe getting the AESWAVE COP Secondary Paddle Lead
www.aeswave.com/COP-Secondary-Paddle-Lead-Capacitive-p9151.html
Anyone have any experience with it? Any and all info appreciated!

Ironic thing is that I watched the 2 vids on the AESWAVE channel using the paddle, and they used it in two different orientations.

Same kit I have. I like it since I can do COP and plug wires with the same tool.

Took a little playing around to get the scope to show good steady readings but it's a real nice tool for the money.

Changing parts is easy, Troubleshooting is an art

I have that kit, too, love it. I usually go for the paddle over the clamp, tends to produce better results, but both work well.

My go-to tool for Ford COP's, paid for itself SO many times over :cheer:

EDIT: I just saw this in the description on AESwave.com:

This rugged 10-foot long, capacitive secondary lead includes a flexible yet sensitive 'paddle' that picks up the secondary signal from any COP system on the road today.

Wish this was true, but I've run into several different COP's that this probe won't work with, mostly three and four wire designs :(

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Hey Tyler, when you say "probe won't work", what exactly do you mean? No signal? Weird signal? Too much noise? You think the transistor has anything to do with it not working?

Happy to hear that it's your go-to tool for Ford COP's being that the stable has 2 Expy's and an E350. :cheer:

Zero signal :( I'm positive the transistor has something to do with it, or just the amount of shielding involved in their construction. I've been curious to know if the Pico or Wyze probe are more versatile...

Still worth it, though, just for the Ford applications B)

I have that kit and used it yesterday to justify pulling the intake manifold on a Mazda 3.0 V6. Primary waveforms looked good. Could only check 4 out of 6 COP units with this paddle lead because the intake manifold obstructed access to the other two. Found cyl 5 (front bank) had a shorted secondary and replaced that coil. Still had a dead miss under load but much less frequent than before. This probe gave me the ammunition I needed to feel good about replacing all 3 coils under the intake as I knew one was bad just not which one and if you're going to do the labor to pull the intake, might as well replace all three while you are there on this 165K miles original coils vehicle.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

I tried the paddle probe with a vantage ultra on 11 venza and 07 crv. The signal secondary wave was really weak. I think i had in on like 2kV range. Flat on top coil pressing it down with my fingers.
Snap throttle a few times i couldn't get it read.

Yeah, I've never had any luck with either one :( I just go straight to current ramps or testing for spark strength manually.

I was considering that one but it looks way more bulky than the AES one. I work on a lot of
Fords so that was what convinced me to get the smaller profile AES Wave COP probe. I think i'll still get the Pico anyway though. LOL

Thank you all for sharing your .02, I really appreciate it.
Looks like (as in most cases), one tool will not do it all. I guess all that means is that the Christmas wish list is going to have one more toy added to it :P
Helloooo Pico Probe ;)

Let us know how the Pico Probe works out! Genuinely curious to hear if it works on other stuff that the Paddle Probe doesn't.

Tried the AES wave paddle probe on an 05 Toyota Highlander today. No signals on top of the coil or on the sides. Bummer.
