Just bought a Modis......but was created by Stewee
Hey guys, i just bought a Modis for a decent price. Came with euro package, update is up to 13.2 and was in really good condition, the guy took care of it. I tried to make sure everything was in the box all keys and wires in stuff, it was my first time buying a scope.
Anyways i went to use the scope and I get an error. The CF disk is missing. And the presets won't load on either the scope or graphing meter. Can I just buy any CF card from Amazon and put it in? I read on some forums that people cant even use their scanners without the card because it has the updates in it, but the rest of my Modis works good. Need direction.

Confirm what it's not, and fix what it is!

Well there are 2 CF discs in the MODIS. One under the left rubber handle grip and one that goes into the top of the MODIS. Both are required.
You can either ask the seller if they have the CF disk, return it or buy a CF disk and use the backup images I have of mine that I will link to when they are uploaded to my google drive. You will need Aomei Backupper Standard software to "Restore" images to the CF disk.
I don't know if the images will work for you. Which CF disk is it missing?
Justin

It has been a few years since I had a MODIS but, as I recall, the update came on a CF Card. After the update was installed, that CF Card was not needed, anymore. (I never used any presets). After the update, the CF card was reformatted and used to transfer SAVES from the MODIS to a desktop PC. This card slot was on the back of the scanner. Not under the rubber bumper.

Thanks for the respond guys. The CF card that is missing is the one on top of the modis. I ask the guy that I bought from about, but he said he didn't know where it was and never had to used the scope so he didn't care basically. He said I can just buy one from eBay. But after some research it didn't seem that easy.
When I try to get into the scope by highlighting it, it'll display presets like DC volts or amps... Whichever one I click on it will say something like "error cfdisk missing/ no presents found" . Is there another way to get to the scope ?
If you can help me with those files Justin you would be the man! Do i just get any CF card? Does it need to be a certain size ? 1 gig 2gig?

The one on top is just 128MB. Really small.
You can certainly try buying one and tossing it in there to see if it only wants it only for storage. If it won't take it try copying everything from this shared ZIP file which has a copy of everything and also an image of the card. I don't think you need to use any of it. I think just sticking a blank CF card in there will be fine. I wouldn't get a large one either. The 128MB in mine never fills up cause I usually empty the file storage from it anyways once in awhile. I am not sure how large of capacity it will accept.

Alright guys I bought the compact card, I popped in inside the top of the modis and tried it out first before installing the zip on the card, and Bam! It works! Scope, meter, all comes on now. I'm glad it wasn't complication the way other people made it seem to be. Thanks for the help really appreciate it! .
