What essentials do you bring and what are the nice to haves? How about storage of these items for portability?
I always want to keep it minimal but end up bringing a ton every time. Not that it's bad to have it all but I'd prefer to travel lighter and of course a theif would make out well if I had all of my eggs in one basket!

That always seems to be ever changing for me....
I've abandoned carry cases and grab stuff as needed from my tool chest and fill the back seat of the Lincoln when I go on call.
Depending on the issue,
A scanner, a meter, test light, power probe and back probes.
Fuel pressure gauge usually comes for the ride, and if there's a misfire, injector pulser and vacuum gauge.
And a pen and paper so I don't work in circles
I also worry about having my tools in my truck and try to bring the big stuff inside and throw a coat over anything else.
