Diagnostic program needed

Need to upgrade my diagnostic scan tool. I was an AISE certified mechanic until 1983 when I changed careers. I recently retired and getting back into vehicle maintenance field part time. I can’t justify spending upwards of 2,000.00 dollars for a decent diagnostic tool but was wondering if anyone had some recommendations on a good program for my laptop running windows 10? Thanks for any assistance.
