Hello, is anyone aware of any consumer grade scan tools capable of resetting individual PIDs such as fuel trim or defining fuel composition (ethanol percent)? I am not a pro therefore can't justify a Snapon or manufacturer tool.

Thanks for your help!

Hey klingelm! For our reference, what's your budget?

Is there a make/model you're interested in working on, specifically? Or, more generalized coverage? I read that you can't justify big money on this, but a used Solus Ultra (with a recent software update) would be fairly affordable, and get the job done.

Hey Tyler! I was hoping to stay below $1,000. I mostly work on GM and Ford.

Thanks,
Mike

For Ford's there is a low cost PC program called Forscan that gives near dealer level access. For GM there is similar software.

In addition to the usual code reading and data monitoring and graphing, command ethanol percentage in flex fuel cars, command relearn on long term fuel trim, command relearn on trans shift points, etc. Thanks for the help.

I just picked up a used Solus Ultra with Euro 13.4 for $800.

My rep promised to give me the full $800 back in trade when a used Modis or Verus shows up.

Great scanner, very fast and easy to use. The touchscreen and buttons is a great touch in my opinion.
I still miss my scope...
I'm considering keeping the Solus and buying a stand alone scope.

Being able to do the ethanol transmission resets is the part that really adds cost, unfortunately. :-( Like Noah suggested, a used Snap-On would be a great way to go. Get one with the newest update level you can, and it'll have all kinds of bidirectional functions. ;-)

It's a bit out of budget, but something like this would tick all the boxes, too.
