I came across this troubling device and it's probably got me more upset than it should.

I saw an ad with some very disparaging remarks toward mechanics, stating that they always rip you off and all of that, and that this tool will protect you from that happening.

It says that the tool tells you exactly what is wrong with your car.

This pisses me off because it is very misleading to the general public and their comments are disrespectful to professionals in the field.

Looks like a basic code reader and maintenance log to me.

Thoughts?

Oh yeah....I've seen crap like this before. Worst of all, he calls himself a mechanic  In my opinion he's just trying to sell this for his own profit. Nothing more than an ELM327. Pretty disgusting that technicians with years of experience and training just get simplified as 'guys who rip you off'....

I cannot roll my eyes hard enough at this.

Just another way to enable the parts changer mentality.

It should come with a free parts canon.

I'm just glad there's someone out there protecting consumers from our rapacious practices...

Hope the sarcasm is thick enough to pick up.

If every one who owned a car had a dongle like that, it would probably make the industry better. After you and your neighbor put 2 eBay oxygen sensors in your wife's late model minivan (and six times as many domestic beers in your own tank) because the magic box said "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious oxygen sensor, bank 1" and the "Idiot Light" is still laughing at you, you can bring it to a real tech and trade stories about the one time you got dirt under your finger nails too!

Seriously, if everyone saw what little direction a generic scan tool gives an experienced, initiated tech compared to what the average grocery bagger can glean from data pids, people would realize it's the bald f@#ing c@#t in the video that's preying on the ignorance of consumers by selling them a tool that will NOT fix the car, and will only serve to pay for the revolving doors at the parts stores.

LOL!

He, pretty much, admits to being a shady mechanic. That says it all.
