So, a while back I bought one of these devices as new-old-stock.

I never got the instruction manual with it, and I'm not entirely certain how to connect it and calibrate / configure it.

Does anyone have one of these with a manual that they could scan or camera-phone-photograph for me?

I believe that they were manufactured by Lenehan Research, who are now gone. Their website (on archive.org) has some information (perhaps enough) but there are a couple of bits I'm unclear about and a copy of the instructions would be really handy...

Cheers,

Paul

The lead connections:
Quote BAT website "The small Red and Black clips attach to the battery terminals, and the large Red clip, attaches to the ignition coil wire, or spark plug wire. The fourth lead, is a sensor that is mounted in a heat shrink tube, which is placed next to a fuel injector, and tied against the injector body with a wire tie. The connection to the vehicle will take mere minutes."

I found the explanation here in a review on the BAT Auto TechnicalWebsite looks it might have been useful especially pre-OBD2

Hi Andy,

That's part of it. There are three buttons, the exact use of which are still a bit mysterious - Reset, Set Cal and Cut

There's text on the tool which reads:

1. Reset before engine quits
2. Hold reset to set and cut
3. Use cut if ALT lights with ignition on and engine stopped

It's probably me being a bit dim, but I can't reconcile the text with the buttons and exactly what I'd do. Hmm....

Cheers,

Paul

This is sweet! :woohoo: I had no idea anyone made this kind of thing. Silly ol' me over here with my test light and spark tester, trying to watch both. :silly:

Sadly, like all useful stuff, they stopped making them. I believe it was in 2008.

The product was originally made and marketed by Lenehan Research and then they sold the product line to Snap-On.

They do seem to appear on Ebay from time to time. From what I've read, they were considered a useful tool. Mine would be more useful if I could figure out how to use it....

Cheers,

Paul

I am sucker for any of these older diagnostic tools when they appear on ebay --- if it is under £10 I have an KAL Actron Ignition Module and Sensor tester 2992 that is great for a quick check wheel speed sensors.

I'm a sucker for little specific testers in general...

GTC 505 Ignition analyser (little handheld scope for ignition secondary waveforms)
GTC Lambda sensor tester
Hickok Waekon Voltage Drop Pro (big-boy version of a LoadPro / multimeter combination)
Waekon PWM Power Pro (PWM power supply with variable duty cycle)
Ring RBAG700 Battery / charging system analyser
Waekon ABS Pinpoint tester (ABS sensor tester / simulator)
AutoDitex Autosim (sensor waveform generator - can pretend to be cam sensor/ crank sensor/ thermistor / etc etc to verify wiring to the ECU and its response to signals)
Autoditex stepper motor tester
SCHLabs throttle body tester / actuator / accel pedal position sensor tester
SCHLabs stepper motor tester
ESI Starter Buddy Pro (tests for voltage drop on cables to starter motor)
ESI Short buddy (alternative to the Bluepoint Fuse Saver product)
ESI Relay Buddy (relay tester)
Laser 5583 Water Pump Tester

The list is endless, the garage shelves are full and the bank balance perpetually empty....

And Snap-On have dug me out a PDF of the manual. :-)
My quest is completed. Now to find a car to use it on...
