I've seen several videos where you check the r- 134a systems for leaks using shop compressed air. And in the last few weeks I've used that procedure myself and gotten a lot of success. My question is, can we use the same leak check procedure on an r-1234yf system? I can purchase a manifold gauge set that will hook up to these systems but I want to know for sure if it can be done just like the 134a systems?

Technically, you shouldn't even do it with R134a systems. I do, and will continue to do so, but nitrogen or CO2 are favored over shop air.

Like Noah said, you absolutely can do the same check with shop air. There's little difference between that and a system that's already leaked all the refrigerant out. Should you? No, IMO, but that shouldn't stop you if you think it's worthwhile.

Some techs swear off refrigerant detectors, but I love mine. To each their own!
