MAF Testing Technique was created by Noah

I saw this video from the Wells VE YouTube channel. I never heard of using the MAF scan data PID the way they do in this video.
It made me think of the recent Pontiac Vibe thread
Thoughts?

It is certainly a very valid way of telling a vacuum leak from a MAF prpble, provided you have a decently quick graphing scantool. You could of course do the same with a 2 channel scope but scan data is easier.

Seems pretty straight forward, but yeah, I'd scope it.

On another note, bear with me, I'm envisaging a tool idea. An air mass meter with its own standalone monitor and alligator clips for power supply. It'd come with a few adaptors to suit different intake sizes so that you could measure intake airflow on your own MAF before that same air passed through the cars MAF so you could compare the reading.

Maybe I just need to get better at remembering better MAF readings for different engine capacities and fuels.

I've been following Mike Becker for a couple months now. There are live training videos on the Wells Vehicle Electronics channel.

Yeah same Dylan. They really go in depth don't they. Another great source. They've come a long way since that video posted above.

I thought it was a bit of a cop out to say that the data was a result of a faulty MAF, and then to not do an after capture once the vacuum leak was fixed.
When I have some time, I'll try it on my truck with and without a vacuum leak.

I wasn't impressed in my opinion vac leaks are most common and I think that maf would have had no driveability issues after being cleaned....
