I saw an add in a Facebook about service saving gas and improves performance. I contact the person and asked them to explain what's this about. They replied with a video showing results after a carbon cleaning procedure. In the video the person based the improvement of the car by an increased injector pulse width (IPW).

My thinking is this. If you want to show improvement of a car that was idling the fuel trims, o2 and ignition waveforms should be included. I would even show volumetric efficiency at WOT of course. I know the value of removing carbon and agree with the procedure I just don't think the test/display was insufficient.

This part from the description stuck out to me:

In the first video engine off key on injector pulse read 7.52ms after carbon clean engine off key on injector pulse read 6.77ms.

Not sure how valid KOEO injector pulse values are.

Also, am I confused, or was he citing higher injector pulse width numbers at idle as an improvement? If you're all about saving gas, then how does this improve economy?

I tried discussing it with him but he told me that I lack experience and ignition waveforms aren't needed when field testing. I dusted off my ego and seeked objective views.

Yes, he's saying an increased IPW @ idle means the engine is running better.

Wow all I can say is if you don't know what your talking about don't talk about ! What the heck does injector pw koeo have to do with fuel consumption ! I am all for carbon cleaning but this is the worst proof I've ever seen !!! Just tell him nice code reader and leave it alone

The argument could be made that higher ipw = more efficient burn = better fuel mileage but I didn't here that I'm his video and koeo doesn't prove anything I'll have to take a look at all the data before and after next time I do a carbon clean and see what is affected

I've seen some case studies using the FirstLook sensor in the intake before and after a carbon clean. There was a difference, definitely, but I dunno that the before waveform by itself would be enough to sell the service.

I mostly sell them based on mileage , I have a motorvac carbon cleaning machine and I pair that with a can of seafoam through the vacuum port and a good throttle body cleaning and what a difference it makes on a car with over 80k! Miles
