Hello everyone, I am new to using scopes and not to rich so for now I use the Pico 2205A 2nd to the lowest pico you can get. Watching tons of youtube videos shows me the value in doing relative compression testing. I also have the Pico Ta234 low amp clamp. Can this be used for RC tests? I can't seem to get the scope settings right. I got the low amp one thinking I could just scale it up and save money and it has a nice size jaw to easily clamp around battery cables. A setting screen shot or video link with a demonstration? or no dummy it wont work

Thanks

Yes it can. set your scope to 2v dc and time base around 1 sec/div

The Ta 234's usable range is 5 to 30A as per spec. Though typically current clamps measure well beyond their nominal spec you may encounter limitations (clip off) on diesel and big gasoline engines when DC-coupled. In this case use the AC-mode.

While your at it you should try hooking a 2nd channel directly to the battery with AC couple and compare it to the amp clamp (you will have to invert it in the software)( I don't recommend reversing polarity on non floating ground scopes.)

Especially on a common ground scope when using more than one channel!

Another great way for RC is voltage drop measurement from block ground to negative battery post.
