Power Probe 3S was created by Tyler
Just saw this on the cover of a trade magazine - another new Power Probe.

It's supposed to be pretty much the same as a PP3 but... better? I already have a PP3, not sure if this justifies upgrading. And if I'm gonna upgrade, why not go direct to the PP4?

Thoughts?

I couldn't see switching from the 3 to the 3s, but if someone didn't already own a power probe, I can certainly see the appeal of the 3s over the 3.

The PP3 was way too hard to navigate. If they're close to the same price, the S looks like a superior tool. Of course, if it's close to the price of the PP4, I would just get the 4. I really like that tool ;)

No joke, dude. I tried one of those on the tool truck, very frustrating to use. Not terribly ergonomic, either.

Me too. I snapped the alligator clamp of the ground lead seconds after he handed the thing to me...

 Yeah, that's not gonna do well in a shop environment, much less a junkyard.

Also, how long were you guys gonna let me leave the title misspelled?! I just noticed it today.

I have been eyeing the Power Probe 4.

As much as I use the PP3, with the added features, I'll probably have one, soon.

It is a better tool. I don't regret upgrading from the 3 at all. It's easier to navigate and has more relevant settings.

Maybe I'll upgrade, and see if the PP3 can handle secondary ignition? It's one of those things I've always been curious about, but too scared to try.

Yeah, one of my not so bright ideas. Thankfully it was under warranty and not very closely scrutinized...

Hah! Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was gonna do the same thing. :silly: Did you use the actual probe tip, or the grounded alligator clip?

Oh yeah honey, I went whole hog. I remember pulling the wire off the cap, looking at the probe, thinking "man, should I?"

Boy was I sad when there was spark, and the screen went blank...

Lol what were you expecting it to say when you hooked it to the secondary?? Would have been cool if they'd have built in over volt protect that just said OUCH on the screen when it got hit with 12kv!!

Lmao @ Ben!
I wasn't expecting a measurement, just trying to verify spark on the side of the road. Well, there was spark, lol!
