Hi,
Looking at doing a EEC/Fuel Pump relay upgrade on my 1989 F-150!

Have not found any SPECIFIC info on this as to an exact model of BOSCH Relay to use?

I ASSUME a BOSCH 40 amp, 4 pin relay,, with matching connector, would work???

If anyone has any ideas on this, I'm all ears!

Bosch fuel pump relays are generally 30 amp there might be a 40 amp version for diesels.
Fuel pump relays should have an internal diode called a "flyback diode" that helps prevent the relay contacts arcing when it makes and breaks. Cheap general purpose relays usually don't have a diode.

Hi,
Thanks Andy!

I'm having a crank no start issue on my 89 f 150.

I'm putting 12V in to my EEC relay and only getting 4.9V out reference voltage off of the TPS is only 1.5V ! (Voltage Drop?)

I'm going for now to put a BWD (Borg Warner) new connecter in.

The relay is a brand new Motorcraft!

Hope this fixes the no start problem?

Just looking at going to better relays on the EEC and fuel pump for this truck but not finding a lot of info on this upgrade???

Thanks again!

Hey seagiant! Where did you learn about this relay upgrade? Honestly curious, I've never heard of it before. When I've run into voltage drop problems on these relays in the past, I've just replace the relay and connector together. I also add some weatherproofing to the relay connectors, to (hopefully) prevent future failures.

Hi Tyler,
I've seen it mentioned on other forums.

I guess what guys are doing is going to JY's and getting BOSCH type relays, from 92-96 year trucks and then just wiring them in with new female spades (no connector!)

I'm going to stay with the old type (oem) connector for now, as I have enough on my plate trying to get this truck to start?

I am hoping with the new Borg Warner (BWD) connector I get rid of the voltage drop and the truck runs again!

As a side note I was in my local FORD Dealership looking at what they had (not much!) and talked to the Service Manager about the voltage drop at the EEC relay.

He was less than useless and just wanted me to bring it in! (Go figure!)
