Moving ScannerDanner Premium to my website?

This is a real possibility. No more country restrictions. I'll have control of everything (subscription and playback)
Payments would be handled by PayPal.
Better organization of playlists. (like I've done for chapters 1-9) . I'll put the case studies in unique playlists too, for example "no spark problems" and list all the case studies under that heading that had spark issues.
Everything will play from here.
What do you guys think? I may not have a choice. Heard through the grapevine YouTube may be cancelling the paid channels. I'll know for sure in the next few days.

Whoa, really? Sure seems like YT is going out of it's way to make things difficult...

No more country restrictions would be big, given your international popularity. :cheer: What will bandwidth and hosting costs be like for your Premium library?

Bandwidth will be unlimited, hosting will be expensive. But again, I may not have a choice. I'll know more in the next few days.

Youtube are heading in the wrong direction, advertising is where the money comes from but it is getting a bit too intrusive, and some of the other changes they have made seem to be causing play back issues, but self hosting the channel is a major step.

I think it's good. More people will obviously go to the website. But if YouTube is cancelling the paid channels, like you said you may not have a choice.

It could be an opportunity to really package the whole ScannerDanner Training Experience. Depending on the layout you might even be able to include a test at the end of chapters, printable diagrams from classroom lectures. You could even use it as a medium to introduce new material into the book if you wanted.
Maybe being able to print off a few more pages of new or revised material to add to the book every few months would convince some people who are maybe on the fence about signing up for premium content. (Like you don't have enough to do already!)

FWIW, I'm betting most subscribers will happily come over to the website after the shutdown. ;-)

Youtube have totally lost direction, they want to become Amazon Prime Video or Netflix, there is something wrong with a world where big business can treat the individuals who make the content and subscribe to it so badly.

Solidarity !!! --- we stand with you Paul.

Hey Paul. I'll be checking back at the end of the month to see if Google stopped my payments to your premium channel. As soon as I can verify that, my payments will continue via PayPal. Please keep up the outstanding work. Wyatt

Awe man can't believe that, especially the way they gave you so little time to prepare for it,but it's their loss!Don't worry Paul I believe you have a pretty loyal following, now we need to be patient and allow you time to get things sorted as none of this was your fault. When you know what direction your going we as a group need to let people know where you are by sharing your free videos etc,you can count on us Paul. Just an idea as loads watch on phones, what about an app?is that an option?Anyway just remember this is a problem but you are the best in the business at solving them

I don't believe you are going to have any problems with subscribers moving over. Some of the subscribers even offered to open a go fund me page to help defer costs. I would donate!
You do a great job! Keep up the good work!
God bless.

I can understand YouTube wanting to take their business in another direction. To not even have the decency to let the paid content providers know is bad business practice. For them to continue to take money for a service they know they will not deliver is fraudulent. I'm sure there will be a class action lawsuit which will enrich lawyers and do nothing for the content providers like Paul or those paying for subscriptions.

Unfortunately, the business practice Google is employing is all to common. I got an email Friday morning from my hosting company saying they were going out of business, get your data off quick. I still can't get them to respond and give me access to the latest database backup. I'll I can say is keep local backups of everything.

Even though I'm just a shade tree mechanic I find his videos invaluable. I save enough time and money on my own repairs to justify the cost and I get to have some fun learning new stuff anyhow.

I'll be sticking around for sure...

Thank you all so much! I am in better spirits today. You guys have given me the confidence that I can rebuild this thing. I just hope the login experience is better than it has been for the forum. There still seems to be some issues there.
We are working on this thing as we speak! I'll keep everyone posted okay?

Paul have you taken a look at Vimeo Business hosting? I could only imagine what hosting will cost you here... Vimeo host is a true video host site with Google Analytics.

I looked into Vimeo, their numbers were definitely better than YouTube from a percentage standpoint, but the reason I am going to host this myself is I DO NOT want to encounter this again. What happens 5 years from now when Vimeo says "sorry, we are done with this", like YouTube did.
Also, I will have all of the control of everything! This will be a big task but I have a great team around me! My sons and my wife will be helping me as well as my moderators here and great forum members like you! Also we cannot forget Wyatt, my web designer who is a super star to me right now. This is not his first time doing this. He is the man!
