the sensor activates the stepper motor which in turn moves the vents open and shut. the vents are behind the grill just in front of the radiator. if you're mechanically inclined you have to get to the stepper motor and see if its working by putting voltage directly to the stepper motor. either the stepper is not working or one or more of the vents are stuck in position.

Thank you scannerJohn, I have check the stepper motors, they re all good. In fact power comes to the motors, and they swing when ignition is turn on, both motors but I wonder why this code keep coming up ...

Yes when I clear the code, turn the ignition off and then turn it on, then the code come back in about 30 seconds or sometimes less...
I also have C1870 code in the AWD module, any look up on this code , it is related to air fuel emission issue.

not much data available on active shutter problems... the system is tied into the engine temp and I suspect maybe something in the speed control as the shutters open and shut with engine temp and speed of vehicle.
The PCM relies on voltage readings from each of the sensors to properly operate the shutters. Even though the stepper motors move the shutters, one or both may not be sending the proper voltage signal to the PCM. Engine temp is very critical but I not leaning in that direction as you have not mentioned an over heating problem. I'm thinking that one of the steppers is not giving the proper voltage signal. Can't come up with wiring diagrams, but the steppers should have a ground, power and signal wire. If you can, check the signal wire and note the signal voltage. Compare it to the second stepper. Both should give the same reading. You might as well check the power reference signal as well. Depending on the design, the reference voltage may not be 12v.
In any event, the reason the code returns is because the voltage signal is out of operating range, so the PCM throws the code. A bad or weak ground can cause voltage problems.
I'll keep trying to find a wiring diagram.

Gotta buy the lower shutter grill and have it install, then will update this thread after the installation.
Thanks scannerJohn
