Snap-on is releasing a new scan tool that they say is going to be the "biggest thing" on the market today. My local rep said it has been under raps for 2 years and he would not give me much information but said it will all come out next week. He said that it will be far superior to the Verus Edge that is currently out. I am curious to see what all the hype is about when he shows up next week. He played this video

My rep was saying that it's supposed to guide the tech through repairs, starting with checking TSBs and maybe even the ECM calibration. He wasn't very sure but he did say they're calling it Zeus.

I can't afford anything new, but this should create a very healthy submarket for used equipment. My old Verus is already, or soon to be, out of serviceability and is getting tempermental...

I imagine that it will not be any less expensive than the Edge costs. The diagnostic rep in my area was pretty tight lipped about it. Noah was correct about it being called Zeus as a quick google search confirmed that. More or less it sounds like what he said that with one scan it will pull codes check for keywords in the TSB database for the YMM and shortcut the standard steps we have been acclimated to follow in our normal diagnostic paths.

This is exactly what I was thinking of - something that's designed to pretty much do the work for you. :(

No more need for diagnosticians. Just monkeys who can follow instructions. I'm quitting my job

Lol, yeah, well this wheel chock has made me a good deal of money over the years. Hopefully my rep can send it out or something. I feel like I lost an apendage...

Ugh, looks like the hard drive took a dump. The factory restore files can't be found on the drive, and it won't boot in safe mode....
$700-$1400 to repair.
I'm gonna wait a couple weeks and see if someone trades in a nice Verus Edge for the new platform. At least something without keys anyway
Until then I have a Solus Edge as a loaner...
I would hate to send it out and commit to fixing the thing, then a great deal comes by in a trade in.

I'm sure one will come along.... 3 hours after you commit to your old one.
Sorry for your loss Noah.

Interested to hear more from the early adopters. My Snap-On guy didn't have anything for me.

Interesting link ro-longo. I've been there before but forgotten all about it.
In my eyes that kind of reads like an iPhone with built in obsolescence. Which is understandable to a point being as it's 2017 and technology moves so fast. But on the other hand it's really forgetting about the smaller guys that still spend a large percentage of their income each week to keep up with necessary tools. There may be big profit individually from big shops but collectively the smaller guys must be a large customer base.
I feel for guys like you Tyler that have a very expensive brick. How old is your scanner? Did you buy it new?

So my rep had one on his truck today and said he has sold two already. It comes with a steep price tag of 15K. Its geared towards techs who have beginner or novice diagnostic skills. It kind of "holds you hand" during the process. With a code scan it will bring up related TSBs and a list of parts that may have fixed the issue. You can click on a code and it will bring up related live PIDs and "flag" ones that are not "normal" range. It has the same shape and size as the Edge and mostly same hardware (scope, processor, ram, ssd). The VCI is what I like the most its really small (not as small as the Launch) no wire and has a led light to help locate the DLC. Will also drop right into the Edges docking station. I did not have a lot of time to play with it as I had a busy day. However my rep knows I have no intention on buying one, but said he will leave one with me to put though its paces and give him some feedback. Sorry for the long post but wanted to give as much info as I could.
