I lost a project car when I hit a hidden patch of black ice on a back road 4 years back and I still beat myself up about it.
So guys the search is on find Paul a rust free replacement.

It could have been much worse! At least he was driving and not his wife or one of the kids.
And it was the project car, not the Silverado or God forbid, even the house!
Very lucky in my eyes.
I saw a customers Jeep burn in a similar way. He was having electrical issues and wanted me to look at it. Something with the turn signals I think. Glad I didn't touch it, or he would have been after me like Paul said in the video!
And if course there was my own 96 white Cherokee I rolled over....
I'm done with Jeeps, (Cherokees specifically).
Not trashing them or anyone who likes them, I just don't feel compelled to own another one.

 After working on enough customer Heaps, I decided the same. "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand." You're right, I don't!

But I can feel his pain, I wrecked my 67 Mustang back when I was 19 and I regret doing it to this day.

And also, as a fellow mechanic I try to keep an open mind about makes and models and fix what comes in the door, but I too have zero fondness for any Jeep product.

Two main things you need to flat tow.
1. A 4x4 with a transfer case that can be manually placed in neutral. - a manual trans works too but the wife can't drive that
Most automatic transmissions cannot be flat towed due to lack of lubrication, unless you buy an auxiliary transmission pump.
2. I wanted as light of a curb weight as possible due to laws regarding auxiliary braking systems.
In PA the maximum you can tow without auxiliary brakes is 3000lbs. The Jeeps curb weight was 3058. Minus the rust and I think I was good Even though my RV can tow 10,000 lbs but I still wanted to be as light as possible.
3. You need to pay attention to the manufacturer recommended maximum tow speed. Some are as low as 55 mph. The Jeep is good for whatever.
Do your research and the Jeep is the most popular flat tow vehicle because of its manual transfer case and light curb weight and stability being towed.
So yes, I am staying with a Cherokee.
Tyler, this is where you come in. You live in a non rust belt area right? Find me a 93 to 2001 Cherokee (not a grand cherokee) that is rust free and I'll drive out to you with the RV to pick it up. We will make a video out of the trip.

Lol nice. Come to think of it, if I'm driving 20 hours (which is what it would be to Kansas), there will be an ocean at the end of the drive, not a flat plain with cows.

Ditto here, I just made my first attempt at a repair video the other day. I watched a little of it and it is hard to listen to my own voice.
