After some thought, this is my interpretation.
Feel free to correct or expand on this
I think that for me, the confusion came in my understanding of how the coil charges. I always pictured the interaction between primary and secondary as a sequence of events instead of happening simultaneously.
It would make sense that if the secondary begins to charge at the moment the primary circuit is completed then the effects of Counter Electro Motive Force (CEMF) are instantaneous, creating immediate "push back" resulting in a familiar, uniform primary current ramp (instead of an on-off square wave type pattern).
So in the case of a shorted secondary circuit, induction is interrupted resulting in weakened (or delayed?) CEMF, which can be seen as an immediate rise of amperage in the current waveform.
Thoughts?

I undertand your reasoning and want to mention something different and at the same time related...
You suggest basically there are two agents at work, a cemf producing itself because of the current flow in the primary and a second cemf caused by induction into the secondary and the build up of a magnetic field there and these two together are responsable for the ramp form. For ease of use I´ll call them the primary and the secondary cemf further on....
Looking at a single coil/inductor - a solenoid, injector, relay etc - we clearly see how the building magnetic field produces this cemf that starts fighting the current through the coil and reveals itself in the form of the classic current ramp. The strength of this cemf depends on the voltage and the current that it is trying to push through the coil.Â
In an ignition coil I "suppose" the same holds true with regards to what I called earlier the primary cemf. I just can´t see/understand why this primary cemf shouldn´t make it´s thing just because of a faulty secondary further down the line .
I think it´s save to assume the effect/force of cemf is positively related to to the emf in the primary and electrical energy induced in the secondary. The energy induced into the secondary at the beginning of the dwell time - where the ramp fault shows up -I estimate as little and would not expect to have a huge impact in this instant. And then there is this polarity issue: when looking at the turn-on oscillation in the primary(current) and secondary(voltage) the polarity seems to be inverted; if indeed so, I could convince myself that in a good, working secondary the mutual induction actually is helping to let the current flow into the primary, instead of fighting against it .
Definetly too much "I assume, I suppose, and I don´t know"......By experience I tend to agree that the faulty current ramp is indicative of a secondary short but I don´t see why and that is gnawing.Â
Hoping for more insight and comments on the matter from the community, thanks again.
